Microchipping
Cats entering or living in the UAE should be microchipped. The microchip must be ISO-compliant (15 digits) and implanted before any travel or official paperwork. Keep the chip number in your pet profile so it is always at hand.
Vaccinations
A valid rabies vaccination is mandatory for travel and most boarding facilities. The first rabies vaccine must be given at least 21 days before travel. Core feline vaccines (FVRCP) are strongly recommended and required by most kennels and sitters.
Pet Passport & Paperwork
For import/export you need: an export health certificate from your origin country, an import permit from the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), and a travel health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. Always check current MOCCAE requirements before booking.
Flying with Your Cat
Book pet-friendly airlines early — Emirates SkyCargo, Etihad Cargo and Qatar Airways offer animal transport. Use an IATA-compliant travel crate (big enough to stand and turn). Avoid sedation unless your vet advises it. Travel outside peak summer heat when possible; some airlines embargo brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds in high temperatures.
Banned & Restricted Breeds
The UAE restricts certain aggressive breeds. For cats there are fewer restrictions, but exotic hybrids may require special permits. Confirm the latest restricted-species list with MOCCAE before importing.
